Sam spent the last weekend in March swimming in the big New England Championship meet at Harvard. Here he is showing off his brand new Speedo Laser. Demonstrating the power of persuasive writing, he sweet-talked Speedo into giving him one for free. Lasers are the million-dollar high-tech racing suits (a la Michael Phelps) that will be illegal after June, but still. He got it for free and got to race the heck out of it in a very big-deal meet.
Oh, how did he do? Well, it goes like this. He swam 16 events over 3 days and he placed in the top 6 in his age group in every single one. He swam best times in almost all of his events.
He won 5 first place/ gold medals in the 400 IM, 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 butterfly, and 100 butterfly.
And, he received the top score in the meet for his age group. So that was a pretty good weekend of swimming.
He brought home a pile of medals and ribbons, and Skyler and Reed each wore a medal around their neck the next day. Skyler said she even let all of her Kindergarten classmates "touch the gold."
