The Utah Contingency

My sister and the boys are here!  Look at these mountain kids getting a taste of the open ocean.

Because they had such a long travel day yesterday (Salt Lake City to Denver to Detroit to Portland), we decided to stay in Portland last night to avoid the added 2 hour drive once they were finally here.  It was a great idea, and included dinner at Flat Bread (again) sitting on the patio, and staying at a hotel.

My nephews, Cameron and Grant, are 9 and 8.  When we pulled into the parking lot of the hotel, they asked if there was a pool.  When I said yes, they both said: "Sick."  I love them.

In the morning we had breakfast and then drove to Crescent Beach State Park in Cape Elizabeth when I really wished my kids were there too.  What a lovely, family-friendly beach.  And it was only 70 degrees out today, so it wasn't crowded at all.

We walked and hunted for shells and relaxed on beach towels.

Next stop: Freeport for lunch and some back-to-school shopping, and then home to find Skyler and Reed, who sort of worship their old, cool, tall cousins.
Reunited!

Doesn't everyone always congregate  right in the middle of the kitchen?

The kids watched a movie projected on our wall while the adults ate outside.

Sam did all of this while I was at the beach and shopping all day.  I think this is totally a fair deal.

Roasted potatoes, salad, green beans and grilled pork tenderloin with peanut, lime, ginger sauce.

Of course, marshmallows.  As it got dark, we sat near the fire because it was that brisk out!  I'm liking this weather.  Looking forward to a cool early morning run, and then spending the day with my sister and mom and all the kids swimming here.
