birthday kicks and turning six.

It was a beautiful (if a little chilly) fall day for Skyler's 6th Birthday party.  Skyler and I worked together on all the details and had a good old time.  I took a ton of photos but couldn't help myself.

We had the party in this gazebo at a local playground.  It was probably a few degrees too chilly for an outdoor party, so thank you to everyone for being such great sports.  The kids (17 of them!) were active the whole time, so they were fine, and I think because of the cold, I kept things moving quickly too.  The whole party lasted one hour and fifteen minutes.  Bam.  Bam.  Bam.

After some playground time, a  simple craft.

My very crafty student Marlee came to help me with the glue, leaf, and ribbon distribution for the kids to make fall wreaths.  (And Marlee took some photos AND helped me clean up!)

Next, more playground time, and then (the most hilarious and photographed stage of the party), a game.

NO HANDS!
 The INTENSITY!

 And then, of course cake!

The cake was a Pumpkin Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting, and it was a big hit, so I'll include the recipe.  It was very easy and came out moist and flavorful.

We could only get one candle lit in the wind, so I hope she made a quick wish.

                                                        My sweet brown-eyed girl.

After cake, there was some more playground time.  I love this shot of Skyler with her new friend Maddie from her Kindergarten class.
So many great friends.  We are so incredibly lucky.
And then everyone got a Caramel Apple to take home.
Which we made partially last night (until we ran out of caramel) and then finished this morning.
Right now I'm sitting in front of the fire with my feet up in a quiet house.  And I can't believe I'm saying this after the insane week we just had:  We have nothing we have to do tomorrow.  Thank goodness.

Skyler is overflowing with amazing gifts and good feelings from her friends.  Thank you to everyone for coming and making her feel so loved.

I'm planning on a very good night sleep tonight.

We always had outdoor parties for my daughter's October 8th birthday, too! Always fun and memorable times, but as you said, usually cold (we even had snow once)!
Your pictures made me smile and remember her first birthday party for friends in K. We invited her whole class and about 12 came-she was so overwhelmed she went in the house and hid in the closet! She didn't stay in very long and had a great time.
Tonight is our celebration night-she "ordered" a special meal for me to make along with her favorite dessert.
I love Skyler's cake-creative deco!

So cute how you used candy to make the flowers on the cake!

Those pics are awesome and, if possible, it looks even more beautiful in photo. That makes me think I need to adjust my own eye lenses so I can see things in their full fledged beauty in the moment.

Thanks for a great party that was a combination of party and keep-warm-so-as-not-to-freeze fun. You outdid yourself as always.
