Clean Food Challenge #2: Checking in {updated}

Our CFC group has grown to 26 people (as far as I know.. let me know if you want to be added to the list).

Zoe, Willow, Kristin, Susan T., Kelly, Brooke, Maria, Jen B., Jill, Jenn B., Kirsten, Emily, Ryan, Sandi, Suzanne, Lindsay, Mel, Danielle, Joanne, Angela, Briana, Maureen, Susan B, Rachel, and Kristin.  So excited to do this with you all!

Several of these folks have blogs, so we will all benefit from the recipe ideas and struggles/ successes of other writers doing the cleanse.

A couple of you asked why I am starting on a Tuesday.  That is simply because we will be coming home late on Sunday night and I would like a day to shop and prep without stress so that I can start feeling ready on Tuesday.  Of course, you can adjust to fit your own needs and schedule.

If anyone else is planning on keeping coffee in your lives during the cleanse, and you have ideas of what we could put in the coffee to make it sweet and creamy that still fits on the CFC list, let me know.  I want to avoid soy, but almond milk does not taste good in coffee.  Agave works to sweeten it a little, but I want to try something else too. Maybe coconut milk?   Ideas?

Feel free to use the comments on this post as a place to ask questions or offer ideas for good recipes.  I'll start the blog list when I think people are writing about their experiences, on or just before Day 1.  Good luck everyone!

I will join in too! Notice I said "will" and not "would like to". I have a family blog, but I may post on there. Somehow this summertime cleanse is more exciting than the post holiday (in between holidays) cleanse. And I may be completely successful!
Thanks!

Great, Joanne! I hear you.. The summer produce will make this so much more fun.

I'll add you to the list!

I'm so excited! I definitely plan to keep drinking coffee. I think everyone around me would suffer tremendously if I stopped. I usually use this in my coffee: http://www.sodeliciousdairyfree.com/products/product.php?p=

It has cane sugar in it, so I'm guessing it won't be OK for the clean food challenge. So, I'm thinking I will just use plain coconut milk (the kind I use in curries) and use liquid vanilla stevia to sweeten it. I'm not sure what else I could use. I'm hoping you get other ideas from other participants.

Thanks for arranging this. I wanted to do it the last time, but it wasn't possible with my life/schedule at the time. I'm glad I can join in this time. I don't have an active blog right now, but I do have a template that I'm working on. I'm just trying to get the courage to hit the publish button...

Before the clean food challenge - may I suggest delving into the abyss first . . . Hmmm!? (said the devil laced in chocolate) http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2011/06/iced-chocolate-recipe/

i would suggest either coconut milk that you sweeten with something else (i use sugar in the raw regularly and i think it's still cfc friendly. at least it doesn't sound overly processed; http://www.sugarintheraw.com/faq/index.html#01) or maybe mimiccreme (http://www.mimiccreme.com/nutrition.html)? it's still processed (given that it's creamer made from nuts), but it doesn't contain any soy, and it is very... i wouldn't really say creamy, but it is thick and does a pretty decent job. i have used it in coffee in the past. (another plus is that they do sell it at the hampden hannaford; bottom shelf in the natural foods aisle, by the gluten free items. i don't know if they actually carry the mimiccreme that is specifically for coffee, and i have never tried that variety). i purchased the sweetened kind for a cupcake recipe a few months ago and it was very sweet, so if i had to do it again, i'd probably go try the unsweetened kind with some sugar in the raw.

Count me in for at least 4 days!

Welcome, Willow, Maria and Danielle! Maria, I am not going to use any sugar, so even unprocessed sugar is out. Agave and pure maple syrup are the only sweetners I'll use. I'm going to try coconut milk in coffee and see how it is.

Danielle: 4 days is good!

And Willow... now is a good time to start blogging! We'd love to read about what you're eating. Do it!

I think I'll be on the look out for the So Delicious Coconut Creamer....perhaps Brunswick or Topsham Hannaford as I've been the So Delicious Coconut Ice Creams there (delish!).

Jill and I will be starting the "cleanse" on Friday! That will give us time to gather some recipes. Very exciting! I will definitely blog about it.

Yay! Welcome to Jill too! That coconut creamer is in our grocery store, so I bet you can find it down there.

This is intriguing! I think I'll give it a try as well. I eat (mostly) vegan, but I've been wanting to cut out gluten to see if it makes me feel different/better.. great idea, thanks for the inspiration.

I'm in for a modified version due to breastfeeding. Not quite sure yet what I'll come up with but I know I can make it work. Can't start until Wednesday because we have Solstice plans. :)

Okay I think I'm going to do this, but starting tomorrow since that's when my family leaves for the US Open for a week. Easier with them out of the house. I am also going to give up driving my car for that week.

I'm going with coconut. Almond was weird although I
Managed. I do remember that coffee creamer was my biggest stumbling block/obsession last time!

Count me in! I read along with the last Clean Food Challenge, but didn't participate. But this is feeling like a good time for me (although I may start a few days earlier as I am hosting a birthday party over the weekend you are including). Can't wait to hear all the great ideas/recipes.

Ange, Susan B, and Maureen: welcome!

Kirsten, yes I think coconut milk is the way to go.

Susan B: no car for the week! what a great addition! Wish I had a bicycle with two kids' seats!

Count me in as well! We don't do gluten in my family anyway, but I'm looking forward to trying this sort of cleanse. Should be a challenge! :)

YAY! Count me in. I decided to do a 30 day clean eating challenge starting June 1st and have been doing really well with the exception of two days that I completely fell off the wagon. BOOO! It will be awesome to have others taking the challenge with me!

Not sure if the link will come up but it was one of the 1st sites when I googled "clean food" today. I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts on clean food vs. cleanse. Also, what about dairy being clean? I buy a local, hormone-free, non-homogonized milk.
