on happiness

"Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it."  - Elizabeth Gilbert

In my on-going efforts to feel like myself again, I've been gathering up moments of happiness and paying special attention to little bursts of joy when I feel them.  I have been taking inventory of my many blessings, being proactive in what I choose to pay attention to.  There are small moments, and when they blow by me, I grab them.

I recently cruised through some old blog posts looking for one or two photos that I could caption with the word "happiness."  What ended up happening is that I had a happiness festival.  There are so many, and it was so good for me, and I smiled for hours afterward.    Here are just a handful.
