ready. set.

I think I'm ready.  I'm nervous and excited.  Mostly excited.  The forecast doesn't look good, but I'm trying to roll with it.  I'm tapered, I've been eating really well, sleeping well, and feeling strong.

I leave on Saturday and the race is on Sunday.  All summer, I was prepared to go down to Southern Maine solo (about 3 hours south of me) for this race, and planned to stay in a hotel by myself and just go do the race.  I was prepared to be a big girl about it and handle it all on my own.  Then my great friend Susan (who is also my co-chair at work) suggested that she come with me, and I responded calmly with OH MY GOD YES YOU WOULD DO THAT FOR ME?

So how great of a friend is Susan?  She is driving down with me (and it will be fun!  We'll stay at York Beach and have dinner out), will go to the race with me and help me set up/ watch me, and then she will run the last 6.5 miles of the race with me.  And if that wasn't enough?  She texted last weekend to say "let's go get pedicures.  my treat."

I chose "pumpkin" in honor of the Pumpkinman Triathlon, of course.  I'm pretty sure ALL the hardcore athletes also coordinate their nail polish to the theme of the race.

So my orange toes and I are ready to go... 7 am start on Sunday morning.  Thank you for all the encouragement!  Let's do it!

How exciting! I supported at Pumpkinman last year and ran my friend in as well. How awesome to have your friend there to support you in so many ways.

Woohoo! Great friend. I do some of my races alone out here but it's always nice to have someone help out with your gear (and take pictures and cheer). I'll be sending good vibes!!

Have a fabulous race! I can't wait to read all about it. I was in Southern Maine earlier this summer. I love it. Of course, that's because I truly believe that I belong in Maine. Someday. Love the new header!

P.S. I posted on FB because most of the time I think I am a robot as I can never get the letters and numbers to work for me-but I really think you should market that new hat idea I posted:
Run, Bike, Swim U Mother!!

Love you new blog header.

I love you for taking this on. You own this experience- whatever it brings. I'm so so proud of you.

And Susan totally wins the friend award. Holy cow.

"How great a friend is Susan?' Very, very, awesomely fantabulously great. WOW. And she is a friend to all of us who know that while you ARE a big girl and you can totally handle this, we feel better now that you'll have support right there with you and your pumpkin toes [love 'em!]. Plus, she can take pictures. 8-) Wishing you strength of heart, lungs, legs and spirit. GO EMILIE!
